Levee
Update
On Wednesday, March 19, the Madison County Board approved
a $172,000 payment to the East-West Gateway Council of Governments
as the county’s share in a three-county effort (including
Monroe and St. Clair counties) to repair the Mississippi River
levees in the Metro East. East-West Gateway will hire engineers
and consultants to improve the levees. A 14-member inter-county
task force, headed by Alliance Board Member and SIUE University
Park Executive Director Jim Pennekamp, is leading the levee
repair effort in Illinois. In February, the task force signed
$225,000 in contracts with engineering, planning and financial
firms to work on the first phase. |

Alliance
2008 Investors Program
The Alliance will launch a new Investors program at the end of April.
As a public-private partnership, the Alliance receives approximately
30% of its funding from private-sector investors. Companies are
encouraged to support the Alliance’s efforts to bring new
commercial development to Edwardsville and Glen Carbon, as such
projects strengthen the local tax base and the strength of the economies

Johnson
Properties, Inc. Brokers Win RASI Awards
The REALTOR® Association of Southwestern Illinois recently
awarded John Eichenlaub of Johnson Properties, Inc. the “Largest
Commercial Transaction” Award for 2007. John previously
received this award in 2000. Tim Johnston, also of Johnson
Properties, Inc., received the “Largest Commercial Listing”
Sales Award for 2007. It is Tim’s fifth Largest Commercial
Listing Sales Award, having previously won the award in 1997,
2000, 2003, and 2006. The Alliance congratulates John and
